Requests for support (we used to call these referrals) come to us via the Mindworks Surrey Access and Advice service. Requests for support can be made by all health, education and social care practitioners.  All children and young people need to be registered with a GP in Surrey to be directed to our emotional wellbeing and mental health service.

We are asking professionals to support children, young people and families to use readily available intervention resources before making a routine referral to us through the Access and Advice service.

This includes the Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Interventions Support Pack which contains resources such as websites, how to access face to face and online counselling services, self-help sheets, and group family support.

Surrey Family Services is offering drop-ins at youth clubs across the county for children, young people and families to obtain further support in the form of information and advice and will be able to book in for a well-being assessment and further local support.

If, despite following the guidance and interventions referenced above, a routine request for support is required, a proforma will need to be completed by the child/young person’s school evidencing where the child or young person has sought pre-request intervention and any impact that may have had. The proforma will need to be endorsed by both school and GP. The proforma is available from schools.

Neurodevelopmental requests for support

  • Our neurodevelopmental pathways are changing. Information regarding this can be found on our 'forms for request for support page'.
  • We recommend using the Neurodevelopmental resource and information page on our website which has lots of useful interventions and resources to assist you during this time.

Social workers: social workers for children aged 11 and above from the Safeguarding Adolescent Team (SAT) and Targeted Youth Service (TYS) teams should make requests for support through the social work pathway.
