Eikon offer parent/carer support webinars which can support the mental health and wellbeing of their children and young people at home. Combining both theory and practical strategies, the webinars offer a range of accessible ideas for parents to choose from, and to find those that will best suit their family.  The webinars last for about an hour with time for questions and answers.  The webinars are free to attend and are open to all parents living in Surrey or with children attending school within Surrey. Learning Space offer two groups for parents and carers. Below are these groups and who to contact.

  • Parent Anxiety course - this course focuses on supporting your child/ young person who may be experiencing anxiety. This course is made up of 4 sessions that are 90 minutes each. View the website for more information. 
  • Parent Voice - provides a safe space for parents and carers to connect socially, share their experience and get involved within the community. This group is held within Redhill, Surrey. To enquire about this group email clare.d@learningspace.org.uk

YMCA East Surrey offer two parent/ carer workshops that provide support for your children and young person's emotional and mental wellbeing and the transition from primary to secondary school. 

  • Understanding Children’s Behaviour - This free online course over five weeks – 2 hour session, will help you to understand what can affect your child’s behaviour and development. You will work with the tutor and other parents/carers, receive feedback and also keep a learner diary to record your progress.
  • Explore Behaviour Strategies - You will explore the different types of behaviour children display and what motivates children to behave in particular ways. You will learn about behaviour strategies for promoting positive behaviour and behaviour strategies for managing challenging behaviour in children.
  • Help your Child Manage Anxiety (1 week) - to increase your understanding of anxiety in children, and to learn new ways to help them to manage it. This workshop is a condensed version of our longer 3 weeks course and will concentrate on strategies to help your child manage anxiety.
  • Help your Child Manage Anxiety (3 weeks) - This is a three week online course (1.5 hours a week) where you will work with the tutor and other parents and carers to increase your understanding of anxiety in children, and to learn new ways to help them to manage it.
  • Supporting your Teenager - This is a FREE online course over three weeks, 2 hour session where you will work with the tutor and other parents and carers to increase your understanding of teenager development and changes that happen.
  • Building your Child’s Resilience - This is a 1.5 hour workshop to look at useful strategies to help support and rebuild your child’s resilience, especially following Covid and the turmoil that some children have faced and struggle to come to terms with.
  • Building your Teenager’s Resilience - This course is a FREE online parenting workshop, parent/carers will learn tips and strategies to support their teenager’s wellbeing, and help their teenagers who struggle when facing adverse situations, this will lead to parents having the knowledge to implement practical exercise and discover useful information.
  • Developing your Child’s Self-Esteem - This is a 1.5 hour workshop to look at useful strategies to help support and rebuild your child’s self esteem, especially following Covid and the turmoil that some children have faced and struggle to come to terms with.
  • Supporting your LGBTQ+ Child - If you are a parent/carer of a child who is questioning their gender identity or sexual orientation, or who identifies as LGBTQ+, and live in Surrey, this course will provide a safe space and help you learn new ways to try and support your child.
  • Who’s in Charge? First Steps to Understanding Child to Parent Violence and Aggression - This course is a FREE online course over three weeks – 2 hour session, for parents and carers whose children (8-18) are being violent and/or aggressive at home. You will explore the possible causes of violent and aggressive behaviour in children, including the myths around this hidden subject. There will be discussion around the child’s understanding of rights and responsibilities and the balance of power in the family. Understand the causes behind a child's aggression at home.
